Reducing Poverty and Expanding Opportunity
At United Way of the Ohio Valley, we believe no one should be defined by their circumstances. Reducing poverty requires more than short-term assistance—it takes coordinated, community-wide efforts that address immediate needs while creating pathways to long-term stability. Through strong partnerships and data-informed strategies, we work to ensure individuals and families have the support they need to move forward with dignity and hope.
Our work is guided by three core focus areas:
Safe and Affordable Housing
Individuals and families have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing that provides a foundation for health, education, and employment. We support programs that increase housing stability, prevent displacement, and connect people to resources that help them remain securely housed.
Prevention and Intervention of Homelessness
Individuals and families at risk of homelessness receive timely support and coordinated services to stabilize their housing, address immediate crises, and navigate pathways back to permanent housing. Our work emphasizes early intervention, rapid response, and collaboration among service providers to reduce homelessness across our region.
Economic Mobility
Individuals and families can increase income, build financial security, and access opportunities that support upward mobility. We invest in initiatives that expand access to workforce training, education, financial coaching, and supportive services that remove barriers to employment and long-term stability.
