Strengthening Community Resiliency
At United Way of the Ohio Valley, we believe resilient communities are built on strong connections, reliable support systems, and the ability to respond and recover when challenges arise. Whether facing natural disasters, economic disruptions, or personal crises, individuals and families deserve timely access to help and a community that stands ready to support them.
Through collaboration with local partners, public agencies, and volunteers, we work to strengthen the systems and relationships that help our region prepare for, respond to, and recover from adversity.
Our work focuses on key outcomes that build resilience across the Ohio Valley:
Crisis Response and Recovery
Individuals and families affected by emergencies and unexpected hardships receive immediate assistance and coordinated support to meet basic needs, stabilize their situations, and begin recovery.
Strong Community Networks
Nonprofits, schools, healthcare providers, and local agencies work together through shared data, communication, and coordinated strategies to respond more effectively to community needs and reduce service gaps.
Prepared and Informed Communities
Residents have access to clear, timely information and resources that help them prepare for emergencies, navigate challenges, and make informed decisions for their families.
211: Connecting People to Help
United Way of the Ohio Valley’s 211 service provides a free, confidential, and easy-to-use connection to local resources for housing, food, utility assistance, healthcare, mental health services, disaster recovery, and more. Available by phone, text, and online, 211 serves as a critical entry point to support—helping individuals and families find assistance quickly, reducing strain on emergency services, and ensuring help is accessible when it is needed most.
